A sterling silver tie bar by the acclaimed silversmith company, Georg Jensen. The piece was designed for Jensen by Danish jewellery designer Harald Nielsen. Nielsen was the younger brother of Jensen's third wife and was encouraged into joining the company despite showing early promise as a painter. He joined as an apprentice chaser in 1909 and worked his way up to designer/director of the smithy school of apprentices. In 1954, he became the smithy director and in 1958 he became artistic director of the Company, a position he held until 1962.
The sterling silver tie slide is fully signed Georg Jensen, with the dotted post 1945 mark, along with the earlier GI mark, which is unusual. This would mean that it was made earlier and probably sat in the workshop during World War Two before finally being sent out for sale post 1945. It has the model reference number '64' on the rear and comes in the original Georg Jensen New York store box from their original location of 667 Fifth Avenue. Made in Denmark, circa 1940's.
